Both in Pisa and Livorno, the Christmas period is full of events, shows and markets that occupy the main streets and squares of the cities.
To celebrate the festivities and to emphasize the atmosphere of joy and care, both cities are decorated with bright decorations and colorful fir trees.
Every year, three huge Christmas trees are set up in the historic center of Pisa: Piazza delle Vettovaglie, Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza Arcivescovado. The banks of the River Arno, on the other hand, are decorated with sparkling led lights, which are also used to decorate the bridges and gates of the city center.
Shows and theme concerts are then organized over the weekend.
In Livorno the Christmas atmosphere is well-known at the Christmas Village, joy of all the children.
Here you can write your own letter and meet Santa Claus personally surrounded by his elven aides. At the village are also held shows and events with Christmas music and there is a small ice skating rink.
There are also many street artists who animate the streets of the historic center of Livorno, which each year come to celebrate the holidays.

The most anticipated and appreciated masked event in Europe, the Viareggio Carnival has imposed on the world stage as one of the most funny events of its kind.
Every year on the promenade of the city you can see the parade of big carnival floats humorously portraying the most famous and important people of the international political scene .
The parades are held every carnival weekend until Mardi Gras. In this period the whole town is celebrating, in parallel are held in fact many other events such as art exhibitions, theatrical performances and fireworks shows.
The floats protagonists of the Viareggio Carnival are made by skilled craftsmen, engineers and designers who work for months. These are big structures in papier mache that despite the complicated architecture are also equipped with motion effects.
Above the floats there is space enough for the many people in costume who sing and dance to the rhythm of music entertaining the public arrived on the promenade to enjoy the show.
The Viareggio Carnival is a tradition since 1873, but the show we know today began to develop in the early ‘900 first with simple wooden floats accompanied by the band, then with the paper mache, the fireworks and disco music.
Each edition leads into the city thousands of Italian and foreign tourists. Often arrive in Viareggio also political leaders and celebrities who want to see themselves their reproductions in paper mache.

Livorno, quieter city and unjustly less known to tourists, is instead the perfect destination to celebrate the New Year by the sea of Tuscany.
The main character of New Years Celebrations in Livorno is the Terrazza Mascagni, the beautiful promenade that stretches in the heart of the city. For one night, the terrace becomes the scene of concerts and DJ sets that, from the stage set up for the occasion, make dance the crowd that gathers there every year.
At midnight are then fired the usual fireworks on the sea.
