The Migliarino, San Rossore, and Massaciuccoli Natural Park is a vast green area that extends parallel to the sea and the beach between Versilia, the province of Pisa, and the province of Livorno. It covers an area of over 23,000 hectares.
Within the park, there are Lake Massaciuccoli and the mouths of the Serchio and Arno rivers, two of the most important watercourses in northern Tuscany.
The area, covered with pine trees and other Mediterranean plants, is crisscrossed by a dense network of trails and dirt roads ideal for trekking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
All the main park itineraries are well signposted and easily accessible even for the less trained and children. They are mostly flat and mostly obstacle-free. The park is a popular destination for excursions and walks, especially in the summer, as the cool shade of the trees provides some relief.
During an excursion in the Migliarino, San Rossore, and Massaciuccoli Natural Park, one must keep their eyes open because it is possible to spot traces of some inhabitants of the pine forest such as deer, wild boars, foxes, woodpeckers, and rabbits.
