Livorno: Venetian Effect

Scroll Down

The Effetto Venezia Festival is one of Livorno’s most characteristic events. It has been taking place for about thirty years, from late July to early August, along the streets and artificial canals of the Venezia Nuova neighborhood.

This area is very ancient in the city, considered by many as the true historic center of Livorno. The neighborhood was built starting from 1629 using the same techniques used for the famous Venetian city from which it takes its name. Here, some of Livorno’s architectural jewels can be found: churches, bridges, and palaces that give the neighborhood a particular ancient charm.

Along the picturesque canals of the area, small pleasure boats are now moored, and numerous trendy venues, converted from old warehouses, line the banks. This is the setting for the Effetto Venezia Festival. The alleys of the neighborhood come alive with music, outdoor markets, performances, street artists, and many lights that create the right festive atmosphere. It is an event rich in colors and typical flavors, culture, and gastronomy of Livorno. There are also many opportunities for boat trips to discover the city from a different perspective.
