The Livorno Aquarium is the most important in Tuscany, recently renovated, and hosts 2,000 animals of over 300 different species.

Located in a scenic position on the city’s waterfront, at the beginning of the famous Terrazza Mascagni, the Livorno Aquarium is a must-see destination, especially when traveling with children.

The aquarium aims to raise awareness among the public about the need for conservation and sustainable management of marine environments, promoting responsible behaviors. In the tanks, many endangered species or those whose marine habitat is heavily threatened by human activity are hosted.

Along the exhibition route, visitors have the opportunity to closely admire various species from the Mediterranean Sea, especially from the Tuscan coast, as well as those from the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. All fish and marine mammals are housed in a space that faithfully reproduces their natural habitat. At the end of the visit, you can climb to the panoramic terrace and see the spectacle of the waterfront promenade from above.

Among the major protagonists of the aquarium are the blacktip reef shark, zebra shark, clownfish, Napoleon fish, and the green turtles “Ari” and “Cuba.” There are also various seahorses, corals, and starfish
